Looking out of each other - We're encouraging local communities to work alongside Belfast Community Safety Partnership, the Police and the District Policing Partnership to help set up neighbourhood watch schemes in their area.

Neighbourhood watch is a scheme run by local volunteers to help make your area safer. It involves:

  • appointing a local scheme coordinator;
  • encouraging other neighbours to participate;
  • meeting with your local police team; and
  • keeping other local residents up-to-date with crime prevention advice.

The benefits of a neighbourhood watch in your area are that:

  • you’re actively looking after each other;
  • it acts as a warning to potential criminals that they are more likely to be caught;
  • it helps communities to help solve crimes;
  • policing can be more tailored to local concerns;
  • it can help to reduce the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour; and
  • you might even qualify for a reduction in your home insurance.
